PAN Localization
Project's Representation in
2nd i4d Seminar
The 2nd i4d Seminar was held at International Convention
Centre Beijing, China on 27 – 28 August 2004.The focus of
the conference was on expanding the digital opportunities in the
developing countries to bridge the digital divide. PAN Localization
Project was represented by Miss Sana Gul, the Regional Research
Officer for the project.
There are several initiatives at the global, regional, national and
the local levels all across the globe. But these efforts are proving
to be much less than what is required to reach to downtrodden and the
underserved people in the society. The requirements, such as for the
basic ICT infrastructure alone, are enormous. The necessary resources
will not flow automatically from the technology-rich countries to the
technology-poor countries. Unless the global community responds to the
challenge of the digital divide in a coordinated and determined
manner, the developing world will wake up to the horrible reality of
being left behind once again.
